Every clan has a totem. Every totem has a story.

In Aboriginal culture, a totem is a natural object — plant or animal — inherited by members of a clan as their emblem. Each group is responsible for the stewardship of their totem, caring for it across generations. Saretta's totem is the Wedge Tail Eagle.

Guparr — the Dolphin — carries a Dreamtime story told to children about the dangers of the ocean. When several children got into trouble in the waves with no help in sight, they were transformed into dolphins, so they could survive, and continue to play and enjoy the surf forever. A story of protection, transformation, and the deep bond between people and sea Country.

Part of the Totem Series — originally commissioned for Hunter Health in 2014, and connected to the Tankaan Ngatan Bobong (Mother and Baby) collection celebrating pregnancy, birth, and motherhood across the Hunter Valley.
