Yunung - Turtle

This turtle imagery reflects both the salt water and fresh water turtle, an abundant and favoured food source for Indigenous communities.

Females with eggs are returned to the water while males are cooked in the shell on the open fire.

The turtles shell had may uses for daily life in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and the turtle is a well-respected food to many groups, is a totem to several tribal groups and is featured in dreamtime and creation stories.

Aboriginal tribal and clan groups each have a totem.  A totem is a natural object, plant or animal that is inherited by members of a clan or family as their emblem and the group is responsible for the stewardship of their totem.  My totem is the Wedge Tail Eagle.

Made from waterproof and UV50+ material, they are suitable for indoors & outdoors. Available in 45 x 45 cm with Bright Full Coloured Backs.

The cushion covers originate from a commission series in 2014 for Hunter Health

bellie cast

Tankaan Ngatan Bobong Series - Mother and Baby

Commission by Hunter New England Local District Health - Birra Li Aboriginal Maternal and Child Health Service in 2014, these 38 week pregnant belly casts of Aboriginal women from across the Hunter Valley are displayed throughout the services facilities.

This artwork celebrates the special journey of pregnancy, birth and motherhood. Each work is depicted on a uniquely crafted belly cast provided from our beautiful pregnant mums from across the region.

The blue, aqua and green ribbon flowing around the borders of the works, representing our region and communities by symbolising both the East Coast and the Hunter River.

Each artworks central figure is of an Australian native wildlife Mother and Baby. These animals, birds and fish are representative of the totems of Aboriginal tribes and passed down to babies at birth.

Cushion Covers:

Made from waterproof material, they are perfect for the lounge, bed, pool side or in your garden – your choices are endless. They are suitable for indoors & outdoors, with many designs to choose from and all include Awabakal Aboriginal names and stories from across Australia.

Stunning turtle

I could not be happier with my yunung turtle cushion cover !!! I have teamed it up with two Kopara cushions on my bed, on a dark basil green quilt cover.
My daughter inlaw is a graphic designer, and she said " just beautiful !!"
Hmm...still need to finish off with maybe a plain yellow throw . Also I have two euros in a kelp green to go on there. One day a photo !!
The colours are as vivid as depicted, and beautiful quality.
As in keeping with fashion house labels, these have Saretta written across the bottom ( so as not to be mistaken that they came from a mass produced store ).

Thank you Linda :)
