Konara Parai celebrates family and connection to country, bringing an acknowledgement to the traditional custodians of the Blackalls Park area, the Awabakal people.

People symbols flow across the canvas highlighting the family of Vicki and Brad, depicted on the left side of the design and moving into their two daughters, their partners and two grandsons.  This imagery shares the high cultural value of family and connection across the generations from past, present and into the future.

Interwoven within a backdrop of songlines on country the design reflects Vicki and Brad’s local footprint on country, depicting the Awabakal people, known as the people of the hills and plains, alongside traditional water symbolism depicting Stony Creek and its journey into Lake Macquarie. Traditional midden sites are seen across the bottom of the work, as these mounds of discarded shellfish over many generations are found around our waterways.

Together this artwork shows the pathway of family life on the shores of Stoney Creek, while remembering the cultural connection of the past and sharing the story into the future.
