Malang Kateya - Together Again
This artwork is apart of MAC Reconnected Exhibition.
This artwork shares our stories of reconnection and recovery throughout community. It celebrates emerging from the pandemic and isolation, reflecting hope through colour palette and design, as we look towards a positive journey forward after COVID-19.
Presented in a tri-tech the first traditional Aboriginal symbolism represents isolation experienced in our immediate family groups, depicted by people symbols U around a gathering circle. This flows on the second canvas as isolation slowly lifts and we are able to visit and connect more and more with family and friends and follows onto the third canvas highlighting our hope to return to full community connections
Interwoven across the canvas a pathway moves throughout the journey we are all experienced and flows on into a positive future. The pathway and backdrop colour palette goes from dark to light, reflective of moving out of the pandemic.
The artwork people U symbolism highlights ‘it’s about people’, ‘We are all in this together’, across our community, our nation and the world and all hold onto the hope of Malang Kateya, being together again.
