Parai - Country series 17
This vibrantly coloured artwork captures the diverse beauty of my country, Wonnarua country (Parai), located in the Hunter Valley of NSW Australia. A land, of mountains and valleys, richly interlaced with vibrantly colored rock forms dramatic in color and rich in cultural significance.
Moving horizontally across the canvas are bold, highly textured flowing lines, holding a twofold meaning:
- Representing our peoples connection to country through use of rich early ochre tones, used for corroboree and rock art,
- Our clans songlines (Borii), depicting walking trails, pilgrimage and trade routes interlaced across Wonaruah country.
Closely linked vertical lines across the centre of the work depict represent the generations past, present and future and the passing on our cultural knowledge across time.
Size: 910 x 910 mm
Medium: Mixed medium on premium stretched canvas with hanging hooks and wire.
