Ronald McDonald House, Newcastle Yapung Mariyang Malang – Pathway Forward Together

This highly textured artwork celebrates the warm supportive home of Ronald McDonald House and the journey alongside families together.

Central to the artwork we see the Ronald McDonald House depicted in traditional people symbols, reflective of welcoming all and highlighting that ‘it’s about people’.  This imagery depicts the Ronald McDonald House community and stakeholders inclusive of families, support teams, volunteers and community care projects. This reflects the unique services provided in a warm and supportive home, where families can stay together, through the ever-changing needs of seriously ill children and their families.

Gathering circles surrounding the central imagery hold people symbols representing Ronald McDonald House families.  Flowing from each circle three people symbols connect each circle to the central imagery representing the journey and connection Ronald McDonald House shares with families and community.  This imagery also depicts collaboration, teamwork and the supportive programs provided to families including holiday accommodation and tutorial assistance.

These three connecting people symbols within the artwork are highly significant as this imagery reflects reconciliation and the three key focus area’s being:  Respect, Relationship and Opportunities.

Importantly the four large meeting circles acknowledge the Aboriginal tribal groups of the Hunter Region, including the Awabakal people as the traditional custodians of the land that Ronald McDonald House sits upon.  Blue water imagery flowing across the canvas represents the East Coast, Lake Macquarie and the waterways of the Hunter, while across the top of the artwork the country of Awabakal is depicted through songlines reflective of hills and plains.
