Pantimai – Messenger for Gina and Phil
Pantimai – Messenger
An Awabakal messenger was generally decorated with the down of the swan or hawk on their head when on an embassy.
They arrange the time, place and manner of tribal business and engagements and were a very important person within the society.
The Awabakal called him Puntimai and he was without a doubt one of the most sacred members of any tribe. He could travel unharmed through hostile country, which was a common feature of East Coast peoples.
Notches and carvings within the message stick, along with a totem tree engraving is depicted within the artwork design.
