Awaba Konara – Lake Macquarie Community

Awaba Konara celebrates community and our home on the beautiful shore of Lake Macquarie.  The artwork reflects the Awabakal people as the people of the Hills and plains, while depicting the beauty of the Lakes surrounding country, upon which we live and share custodianship of today.

Central to the design Biraban the eagle, totem of the Awabakal, brings an acknowledgement to traditional custodians of the land and captures the powerful and majestic eagle soaring about country and water, a common site in the area.

A large gathering circle within the design highlights the Toronto Poly Clinic and the holistic health services provided across our community, while Elders imagery and people symbols rising upwards on either side of the canvas, highlight our community, inclusion and brings a welcome to all.

Engraved songlines flow across the bottom of the artwork, interwoven with message sticks, they are symbolic going forward together and the passing on of knowledge from the past, present and to our future generations of caring for each other and country.
