CREATIVE BRIEF ABORIGINAL DESIGN ELEMENTS - City of Newcastle 

Concept Overview

The design will reflect a local songline theme linked to country across the CoN footprint.  While taking in several themes, the artwork will be simplistic in design reflective of local Aboriginal traditional style.

Through traditional story telling in contemporary design, the artwork appeal will be widespread and invite the viewer to share in our unique local Indigenous culture.

The design will be created as a tiled image allowing for easy connection and flow on across the 60 meter glass community reception space and for incorporation into other nominated spaces as directed by Council.

Songline Themes include:  Muloobinba, Worimi Sand Dunes, Conquun – Hunter River, Hexham Wetlands, Middens and stars songlines.

Scope

Digital artwork to be design, created and digitalized into file package for installation on the 60-meter glass wall in the new CoN Building community reception space.

The size to scale will be created at 100 mm high by 2 meters wide and be tiled allowing for easy flow on connection of the design.

Opportunity

The forthcoming move of Council to 12 Stewart Ave, Newcastle West in July 2019 offers two significant opportunities:

  1. Embedding an 'interpretative acknowledgement' of both Country and local Aboriginal peoples within the design elements of the public customer service area of this building, and within the broader context of the interior fit out.
  2. Coordination and development of a program to enable presentations of Aboriginal works, languages and collateral which can provide context and content for interpretations of Country and local Aboriginal peoples cultural connections to Newcastle, within the multi-media multifunctional space in the customer service area.

I feel very well positions within my community across Awabakal and Worimi Country, having strong links with community leaders, Elders, and cultural artists, ensuring a respectful and dynamic space in created, which is welcoming and inclusive of all.  As a local community member and artist I would be most honoured to have opportunity to represent my community in this journey alongside the NCC creative team.

Returns

To be eligible for a return, your item must be unused and in the same condition that you received it. It must also be in the original packaging. Full refund provided if you’re not happy.

To complete your return, we require a receipt or proof of purchase to be included with the returned item.

Refunds:

Once your return is received and inspected, we will send you an email to notify you that we have received your returned item. We will also notify you of the approval of your refund.

Once approved, then your refund will be processed, and a credit will automatically be applied to your credit card or original method of payment, within 7 days.

To return your product, you should mail your product to: PO Box 719 TORONTO NSW Australia 2283.

You will be responsible for paying for your own shipping costs for returning your item. Shipping costs are non-refundable. If you receive a refund, the cost of return shipping will be deducted from your refund.

There was no European form of written expression of Aboriginal language prior to 1788. Aboriginal language was oral; therefore interpretation of Aboriginal words can result in differing ways of spelling.
