Ngaliinba Konara – Our Community

This Artwork is reflective of the land of Awabakal on the shores of Lake Macquarie, highlight the Warners Bay Early Learning and Care centre footprint on country and their community gathering to pass on knowledge.

Central  to the Artwork a large gathering circle interwoven with people symbols depicts the school family. A further 5 smaller circles within the design highlight the local Five Islands clan of the Awabakal people. This imagery along with the Awabakal eagle totem, Biraban and the Elders traditional symbol at the top of the artwork brings an acknowledgement to traditional custodians of the land.

The elders symbol within the artwork is also reflective of education through the traditional practise of Elders passing on knowledge to youth, while the backdrop of song lines on country is reflective of the Awabakal as the people of the hills and plains. Blue water imagery glowing across the canvas represents Awaba ‘Lake Macquarie’ and cockle creek, both abundant in resources for the daily life of the Five Island clan of the area.
