Puwama Malang – Gather Together
This product is currently sold out.
Puwama Malang shares the story of Travis & Kate, their family and friends gathering together for celebration, special occasions and doing life together in the heart of their home.
The central gathering circle within the design highlights coming together, with traditional people symbols depicted in white, flowing in and out of the gathering circle across the canvas. Steeping stones or smaller gathering circles are interwoven within the artwork, representing life’s seasons and celebrating our unique continuous living culture –past present and future.
Double shaped white traditional symbolism highlighting Elders to the top left of the imagery signifies Travis’s hometown of Coonamble, while Elders symbols to the right of the artwork reflect the family’s home in Newcastle. Pathways interwoven within the design highlight journey from Coonamble to Newcastle and connections between these two towns and across NSW.
Songlines on country acknowledge the Awabakal People of the hills and plains as the traditional custodians of the land. Middens (mounds of discarded shell through feasting of Aboriginal people over many hundreds of years) interlaced within the design on the right side of the canvas, depicting waterways on country of the Awabakal being the East Coast and the Hunter River and is also reflective of the country of the Kamilaroi in Coonamble through the Castlereagh River.
